WinXP, 2 monitors, 2 video cards
MSI Hermes 650 Series, MS-6232 (v1.x) Barebone with integrated SiS video card. It was not possible to turn this video card off in the BIOS (only in windows).
Card 1:
AGP, SIS 650 chipset
This card is running with the SiS driver, version 6.13.10.2079. Two problems could be fixed:
1) Choosing the GeForce to be primary via the BIOS resulted in Windows not loading the driver for the SiS video card. I could fix it by installing the driver manually. But after turning the computer off I had the same problem again. Since this is inconvenient, I am using the SiS as primary now. Both drivers are loaded automatically now without any trouble. (The Windows settings do not depend on the BIOS settings, i. e. you can still choose any card to be primary in Windows even if it is not in the BIOS settings).
2) The other problem could be fixed immediately: The mouse disappeared sometimes on the SiS video card or it transformed into a black square. Solution: Use the windows function "mouse track" or "mouse shadow" that is usually used on (older) laptops. You will find these settings in the Control Panel.
Card 2:
PCI, Nvidia GeForce 2 MX 400 chipset
No problems! I am using the NVIDIA driver (version 2.9.5.8) that came with Windows XP Home. It worked immediately. I can use regular resolutions (e. g. 1024 x 768 or 800 x 600). With PowerStrip it was even possible to switch to 16:9 resolutions (1280 x 768) for wide screen displays.
