I have a Dell D620 laptop with a docking station and a Viewsonic VP171b LDC display. I can't seem to get the VP171b to run in full resolution (ie 1280x1024) when used as the second monitor. The highest resolution choice I'm given is 1024x760 which does work. This is my home setup. When I'm at work I use a different LCD and it doesn't have this issue. I do have different provides for home and work. Any ideas? I've tried driver updates BTW. One difference is as home on the viewsonic I'm using the analog port and at work I use the digital on the docking station.

Do you have the same problem when trying to change the resolution via Windows Display Properties?
If yes, try the following: open Windows Display Properties, select the monitor and click on Advanced, then select the Monitor tab and uncheck 'Hide modes that this monitor cannot display'. You might then be able to select the higher resolution.
