Forums -> UltraMon™ -> Windows x64 7 high CPU usage

I've been trying to figure this one out for a while. As the day wears on, my computer keeps using more and more memory and the desktop manager (DVM.EXE) eventually starts eating up CPU cycles (25-50%). Out of curiosity, I started shutting down programs to try to track it down. As soon as I shut down Ultramon (the beta version 3.0.7) my memory and CPU were freed up. I started Ultramon backup and immediately the CPU and memory shot back up again.

I decided to test for a couple of days and it seems to be consistent. After the system has run for a while, (5-6 hours) this behavior starts happening and only rebooting fixes it. Restarting Ultramon does no.

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate, x64. I have 2 NVidia GForce 7900 GS's with 3 monitors connected. I spend most of my day using Visual Studio 2008, SQL Mgt Studio 2008, Outlook and a host of other tools that get opened and closed throughout the day. Both Google Chrome and FireFox are running almost constantly as well.

I just wanted to report it in case it hasn't been discovered before.

Haven't seen this myself so far, when this happens are the UltraMon processes also using lots of CPU?

I can't believe I didn't check that, hehe. Yes, I just verified. Each one is consuming 25-50% (a lot of fluctuation) when they are both running.

Only UltraMon.exe, or also UltraMonTaskbar.exe and UltraMonUiAcc.exe?

It looks like it's only UltraMon.exe. The other two are using less than 2% each at their highest that I've observed.

Not sure what might cause this, maybe it's related to the window buttons. When you get this the next time, could you check if disabling the window buttons fixes the problem? You can do this via UltraMon Options > Buttons and Menu Commands.

I'm out of here for the weekend, I will give that a shot on Monday, thanks!
