Does this happen with all applications, for example also Notepad or Internet Explorer? Are you using a custom theme/visual style?

this is a strange behavior... it doesnt happen on every boot...
well its nearly a plain system of XP Sp3 with acutal nvidia drivers installed and nearly nothing more installed at all.
its really a strange behavior..
sorry that i cant tell you more...
maybe any regentries would help you solving this problem ?
just let me know.
thx

Some things you could try:
- disable the NVIDIA nView Desktop Manager (there's an entry for it under Start Menu > Control Panel), maybe there's a conflict of some sort
- when you get this the next time, try if restarting UltraMon fixes the problem. To close UltraMon, right-click the UltraMon icon in the system tray and select Close, you can start it again via the shortcut in Start Menu > Programs
