Trying to prevent taskbar icon popups in Windows 7, I have done the following:

Browse to the following location in RegEdit:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
Then create a new DWORD called "DisablePreviewWindow" with a value of 1. You'll probably need to restart to get it working.

and

Ultimate Windows Tweaker – Personalization – Taskbar appearance – checked box "Disable window previews (thumbnails)".
---------------------
Neither works.
No popups in the non-main monitor taskbars (I have 3 monitors).
Is there anything one can do in UltraMon to get the main monitor taskbar to behave?

I got this tip on another list:

Type Gpedit.msc in the Start box, and Enter.
Open User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Start Menu and Taskbar in left pane of Local Group Policy Editor.
Double click on Turn off taskbar thumbnails in right pane of Local Group Policy editor. (Normally the last item), then:
1. Select Enabled button. (Top left)
2. Click OK (bottom right) to activate the change.
3. Logoff and logon again or restart computer.

It did *not* work for me. Could it be that UltraMon does prevent turning off the popups?

UltraMon won't prevent this, but turning off taskbar thumbnails via group policy also doesn't work for me, looks like a Windows issue.

Well, if you have UltraMon installed also, we really do not know, do we?
I will temporarily uninstall UltraMon and then try again. I'll let you know.

Agreed :), but I don't see how UltraMon could interfere with this, it doesn't even check if task previews are enabled or not.

Okay, I still have to uninstall UltraMon and try. I will do that now, before I install the new RC.
