I've uninstalled and re-installed ultramon quite a few times trying to fix this but always get the same result. In the folder c:\programdata\microsoft\windows\startmenu\programs\startup there is the entry for loading ultramon at startup. I presume this is the correct place for this. The target in this entry reads C:\Windows\Installer\{83CCCBDC-3A56-4F3B-89DF-69386C3B7D62}\IcoUltraMon.ico /auto The Start in: entry reads C:\Windows\Installer\{83CCCBDC-3A56-4F3B-89DF-69386C3B7D62}\
As a result, when I start windows 7 ultramon does not start up. What I do get is a Windows Photo Viewer window showing the ultramon icon. I can go to the ultramon program files and start the app OK from there.
It was working correctly up until earlier today but not anymore. Any ideas why this is happening?

I'm not sure what would cause this, but there's definitely something wrong with the shortcut, the location is correct, but the target should be UltraMon, and the target field should be grayed out (disabled).
To fix this, delete the existing shortcut in the Startup folder, then create a new shortcut and enter the following target:
"%ProgramFiles%\UltraMon\UltraMon.exe" /auto

I ended up with the same shortcut to the *.ico file. window 7x64 clean install.

Does it work fine if you create a new shortcut as described above?

I know this post is a bit old, but I thought I'd list my fix for this since I was unable to find the solution anywhere in my searching.
For some reason the UltraMon install on my machine put the shortcut in the startup folder with restricted security. To get it to launch at startup I simply gave the users group on the local machine full control of the shortcut in the startup folder and voila it starts as it should.
