I have a radeon 7000 series video card, and just got a geforce 9500 gt card. Just wondering if it is possible to achieve 3 monitors with these 2 card types on xp pro sp3. So far it is not working.

Probably not, Radeon and gforce generally do not mix. I have built 12 monitor systems, nividia based with 6 cards, but ati and nvidia don't work in my experience

Depends on your specific setup, I have a 3-monitor system with an Nvidia Quadro NVS 290 and an ATI Radeon 4350, works fine with both XP and Windows 7. This type of setup won't work with Vista though (at least not with Vista WDDM drivers).

Is there anything I need to do specifically to ensure it will work? So far i am just putting both in. The drivers for the geforce9 are installed. should i try to install the drivers of the other card too or will they interfere with the first?

You'll need to install drivers for the ATI card as well, won't work otherwise.
