Forums -> UltraMon™ -> UltraMon Changes taskbar icon order

I've recently installed 3.0.10 onto my XPsp3 system also running MaxVista (allowing me to use my laptop as a 3rd monitor).

When I had UltraMon v2, the laptop could join or leave the system with no effect. Now, every time the system reconfigures because of a change in the status of the laptop, the icons on the regular and Smart taskbar rearrange themselves. I try to keep the icons in the same order so I'm not searching for a program, so this is a bit annoying. I have the smart taskbar on all screens, and it's configured to mirror the desktop.

Is this a bug or a feature? ;-) Would it be possible to get the reconfiguration to happen without rearranging the main taskbar?

Thanks for the bug report, I've been able to reproduce the issue, will look into this for the next release.

3.1.0 should be ready before the end of the year.

I've installed 3.1.0 and the taskbar re-ordering still occurs. Did you fix this in 3.1.0, or is it still on the open issues list?

Let me know if you need any info about my system.

Unfortunately didn't make it into 3.1.0, but it's still on the list of things to do.

An update: I've moved to a new PC with Windows 7, and the primary taskbar icons do not reorder themselves when the attached laptop connects and disconnects. However, the icons on the mirror taskbar are not in the same order as the primary taskbar. Is there any way to ensure the icon order remains the same?

Do the tasks on the UltraMon taskbar get rearranged when you connect the laptop via MaxiVista?

Now that I look, yes, they do.

My Windows taskbar is set to "Never Combine", but multiple executing copies of Explorer (for example) still group themselves together. I have numerous apps pinned to the taskbar, also. When the MaxiVista laptop is connected or disconnected, tasks within each grouping reorder themselves, as do any "unpinned" tasks. The pinned tasks stay in order (although, again, if there are multiple copies running, they rearrange within the grouping).

On the Smart Taskbar, the windows appear more or less in the order that they were started (just like XP) and shuffle themselves when the laptop attaches/detaches.

Unfortunately, the app I used on XP to resort the tasks on both bars is not Win7-compatible.

There's no easy fix for this as UltraMon can't determine the order of the tasks on the main taskbar, but Taskbar Shuffle seems to work fine on Windows 7 (at least with the UltraMon taskbars), I tested with version 2.5.

Did you test taskbar shuffle with Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit?

This was on 64-bit Windows 7.
