This is an issue on a Windows7 64bit machine. I use three monitors, and keep different things on each. When my computer goes to sleep and I wake it back up, all of the different items I have on the screens default back to the main screen. I'm not sure if this has been reported or not, so I thought I'd put something about it here.

I'm not sure what would cause this, haven't seen this myself so far. My guess would be that this isn't related to UltraMon, to verify this check if you also have the problem without UltraMon running or installed.

Hi Christian, I can confirm Shane's problem. I closed Ultramon, put my computer to sleep, booted up the computer, and all windows remained as is.
I have 2 monitors and have Outlook, mIRC, and iTunes on my secondary monitor, all maximized. As soon as I boot up from sleep mode, minimizing those icons will shift them to my primary monitor. In other words, I would have to move them back to the secondary monitor where it should be.

I can confirm that this is an issue. I believe it started with the currently release version 3.0.10 and did not occur in the beta releases.
Also, it is when the displays go to sleep, not necesarily the computer. In my case, the computer itself never sleeps but the displays do go to sleep after 20 minutes.

jharvey, which version did you have installed before 3.0.10?

Verifying what I think is a related issue using 3.0.10. I am running Win7 x64. New laptop is a different resolution than the external monitor (external is higher res). When in use, the ext. mon. is the primary and few windows stay open on the secondary (laptop). With UltraMon running, if I put the machine to sleep and take the laptop away from the ext. mon. (which makes the laptop the primary), then when the machine wakes, the icons and windows are not rearranged to the new resolution. Without UltraMon running, this process will force the icons and any open windows to move to their relative position on the "new" primary (the icon arranging is annoying but I need the windows to arrange).
I'm not sure how clear that is so here's a step by step.
1. External monitor res = 1680 x 1050 2. Laptop res = 1600 x 900 3. In dual mode, a window stays open in the lower right corner of the laptop. And a few icons on the ext mon are outside the limits of the laptop. 4. When switching to single mode, that window stays off the screen as if it is keeping the coordinates from dual mode. The icons stay off as well. 5. Without UltraMon running and following the same process, these windows/icons are moved to the relative position on the laptop screen. 6. Previous version of UltraMon have no issues. 2.7.1 on XP.

Some additional info, I just tested it again and the icon part of this seems to be a Windows issue. I did not have "Align to grid" checked for the desktop icons. Checking that Windows option brings the icons back into view. The off-screen window problem still remains. I'll try a few more tests tomorrow.

Scott, so far I haven't been able to reproduce this, also not sure what might cause this on your system.
I had the external monitor as primary, with Notepad on the internal monitor and Internet Explorer on the external. I then put the laptop to sleep, disconnected the external monitor, and started the laptop again. Both applications and all icons were on the internal monitor.
The applications were not maximized, and UltraMon 3.0.10 was using default settings (Smart Taskbar enabled, window buttons enabled, etc).
Could you test if you still have the problem when using the same setup I was using? Maybe it's related to the specific application(s) you're using.

Running your setup, Christian, mine behaved like yours. Notepad moved back, etc. The icon problem was fixed by setting align to grid on those. The window that does not move here is Rainmeter. I suspect that maybe that app is not correctly adjusting itself when the real estate changes (there are several that have that problem and workarounds exist). This was not a problem when I was running XP and UltraMon 2.7, which is why I reported it here. All that to say, my issue is probably NOT UltraMon, but instead Rainmeter missing something when they built the x64 version.
Sorry for the confusion.

Seems to be a Rainmeter issue, I have now tested with Rainmeter 1.1 and see the same behavior, the widgets remain on the external monitor even if it isn't connected. I get this behavior both with and without UltraMon running.

My system was totally rebuilt from scratch on a new SSD drive in early March. I am almost certain that I installed UltraMon 3.0.10 as a new install. I am using Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit.
It just happened to me again. I left my desk with 3 windows up on my secondary monitor: 2 RDP session and an Internet Explorer 8 session open with multiple tabs. When I returned, my monitors were asleep (but the system was not sleeping - it never sleeps when on AC Power) and when I used CTL-ALT-Delete to awaken my monitors (and enter my password), all of the windows on the secondary monitor reappeared on the primary monitor. I do not think it is application specific.
It also does not happen 100% of the time.
In case it matters, my primary monitor is analog (VGA connector) and my secondary monitor is digital (DVI connector). The monitors are identical Dell 2200WFP monitors.
This issue did not happen with the beta versions (which I used on the same OS prior to rebuilding my system in March).

jharvey, did you have 3.0.9 installed previously? There were almost no changes between 3.0.9 and 3.0.10, one bug fix for the setup, and one bug fix for autohide taskbars.

I have it downloaded, so there is a reasonably good chance it was installed, but I can't be sure. My system was rebuilt from scratch when I got a new drive.

My guess would be that this is due to something else, not sure though what might cause this. I also haven't been able to reproduce this issue so far.
A couple of things you could test:
- to check if the issue is related to UltraMon, try if you still have the problem without UltraMon running or installed
- disable password protection for the screen saver. This way the screen saver won't run on a separate desktop, maybe the issue is related to that

I don't have the option to disable password protection on the screen saver. It is a group policy.
I uninstalled Ultramon and the issue still occurs. I guess that is good news for you and no-so-good news for me as there is no chance for a quick solution.
Any idea why this happens? Is it a Windows thing or a screen saver thing (I use one of the builtin screen savers) or a video driver thing?

Christian Studer 2010-04-26 07:37
If you have any video card utilities installed, like Nvidia nView Desktop Manager or ATI HydraVision, I would try if disabling the utility fixes the problem.
