Please save a crash dump when you get this the next time. To do this, don't close the error message, then open Task Manager, select the Processes tab, then right-click UltraMon.exe and select Create Dump File from the menu.
Let me know once you have the crash dump, I will then send you a link to upload it to our server.

I have the same problem on Win7 x64. UltraMon has stopped working after each reboot. Close the program does not solve, but a simple reinstall does, until the next reboot.
I have other PCs in the office with the exact same hardware specs not having this issue.
Any known issues or suggestions>

Martin, do you get an error message, or does UltraMon no longer start when you reboot the system?
If you get an error message, please post the text of the message.

I get an error similar to the one posted by Robert. I don't have access to the PC at the moment but can reproduce and send dump file if that helps.

Nima, are you using Firefox 4? If yes, make sure you have the latest release, there was an issue with 4.0 which caused UltraMon to crash.

There still appear to be problems with Firefox and some combination of Windows 7 (64-bit) and the latest release version of UltraMon. I recently had every single application that was open crash after the following sequence:
1. Launched Firefox 5.0 2. UltraMon crashed 3. Pidgin crashed 4. Security Essentials crashed {insert of applications crashing}
After most of the open applications that had a UI had crashed I restarted the PC, this time taking UltraMon out of the startup folder and have not had a similar crash since I stopped using UltraMon. I checked Event Viewer and the first application that crashed after UltraMon crashed following the Firefox 5.0 launch indicated that UltraMon program caused the fault, subsequent crashes were unable to identify the faulting module because UltraMon was already flushed from memory by the time they crashed.
UltraMon development seems to be a bit stagnant judging from the 7 months since even a point release was made available, still useful but seems like interest and support is fading.

Az, so far I haven't been able to reproduce this, I tested with Firefox 5.0.1 on 64-bit Windows 7 with UltraMon 3.1.0. If you find out anything new let me know and I'll try to reproduce the issue.

We have problems too. For me it also seems to be caused by launching firefox. I get the error most days. Win7 x64, Firefox 10.0.2, Ultramon 3.1.0. Would be great if it was resolved - 'some' others in the office have the issue too. If I can help resolve it let me know. btw. I'm a software developer.

Callum, does UltraMon just crash or do you get a fatal error message from UltraMon?
If it's a crash, please save a crash dump as mentioned above, then contact me at support@realtimesoft.com, I will then send you a link to upload it to our server.

In most cases it does not actually crash. What happens is after the error (Ultramon has stopped working) occurs the Ultramon controls in the top right hand corner of the title bar are no long available (or visible). So I can still run happily and drag windows between screens and they appear in the respective taskbar, so its still useful, just not fully funtional. I have seen it crash completely but only very occasionally, and I have rebuilt my laptop since the last one. For now I'll try to capture a dump as you've described.

Sounds like UltraMon.exe crashes, but UltraMonTaskbar.exe (the Smart Taskbar) still works fine.

Just had an error.. although different to previous ones. In this case I received a Visual C++ runtime error first, then when I clicked ok I got an 'Ultramon has stopped working' error. I grabbed memory dumps (ultramon.exe) for both errors while each error window was displayed.

I've recently had problems with the UltraMon.exe crashing and the UltraMon Taskbar.exe working fine. Is there anything in particular I should be looking for to fix this?
Every time I go to run the UltraMon.exe I get the "UltraMon has stopped working and needs to close". Any thoughts?

Thomas 2014-06-09 11:07
It turned out that all I needed to do was to uninstall and reinstall using a new .msi file download from the site.
I'm glad to be fully operational again.

I'm getting a persistent startup crash after rebooting. It used to be fixed by reinstalling, but not anymore. I just installed the DirectX June 2010 SDK and rebooted, and now UltraMon won't start at all.
From the Windows event log:
Faulting application name: UltraMon.exe, version: 3.2.2.0, time stamp: 0x50d64acc Faulting module name: MSVCR100.dll, version: 10.0.40219.325, time stamp: 0x4df2bcac Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x000000000003c145 Faulting process id: 0xd2c Faulting application start time: 0x01cf9c6f3806b91e Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\UltraMon\UltraMon.exe Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\MSVCR100.dll Report Id: 75b85bb9-0862-11e4-bc7b-240a640764f6
Windows 7 Enterprise x64 SP1
I get no prompt about the process crashing, so I can't catch a crash dump.

I should also note that I don't have Firefox installed. I didn't try waiting at the login screen.
I've used UltraMon for years and have loved every minute. I'll be happy to help find a solution, so please let me know if there's anything else you need.

Do you have Synergy installed? I've had a couple of customers where a hook from Synergy crashed UltraMon, this would show up as a crash in msvcr100.dll (UltraMon itself doesn't use this DLL).
Regarding crash dumps: you can configure Windows to store a crash dump every time an application crashes, to set this up run regedit.exe, then create a new registry key named LocalDumps under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting. The crash dumps will be stored under C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\CrashDumps.

Yes, I do have Synergy installed. I disabled it and that appears to have fixed it. Thank you!

Chris 2014-07-23 06:54
I have the same problem with Synergy and UltraMon.. Can I get the link to upload my crash dumps?
|
Chris 2014-07-23 06:56
I will say, however, if you right click the UltraMon.exe and choose properties and then set the compatibility to Windows Vista (Service Pack 2), it seems to run.
|
Christian Studer 2014-07-23 15:02
Chris, the Synergy hook crashes, this would need to be looked into by the Synergy people.
I couldn't reproduce the issue on my own system though so this could be related to a third application or a specific system configuration setting. But Synergy did crash explorer.exe on my test system.
