The issue here isn't really a Ultramon issue, but, given it relates to using multiple monitors, I thought maybe Realtimesoft or someone else reading this might happen to have some ideas.
I just got a new laptop, with Windows 7 64-bit. I typically use it with a KVM, along with another laptop. So, what I have is, the KVM switches what is the #2 monitor, where the #1 monitor is its own internal display.
So, this setup has worked fine with Windows XP laptops. And works reasonably well with Windows 7, but, with one minor annoyance. With Windows 7, whenever I switch the monitor away from the Windows 7 laptop, Windows automatically moves the windows on the second display to the first display. Which I understand why it does that, since it thinks there isn't a second display anymore, it moves things over to the first display for you.
But, in my case, I don't want it to do that, and XP didn't do that. I want the windows on the second screen to stay put so that when I KVM back to the Windows 7 machine, the stuff that was on display 2 is still there. Or, alternatively, a way to make Windows 7 automatically move things back when it sees the second display come back.
I did a bit of googling, and my laptop has ATI video built in, and someone suggested using the ATI Catalyst Control Center to use manual detection of displays. But, I tried to set that option and it didn't seem to help.
Another option might be to try to use some resisters so that it always looks like there is a display connected even when not. But such a design would mean these resisters will be connected at all times, whether the display is active or not, and I don't know if that will cause problems.
