Forums -> UltraMon™ -> Can scripts bind to hotkeys?

On the UltraMon page describing scripts it mentions:

"To do this, go to UltraMon Options > Hotkeys, and add a new 'Run application or script' hotkey."

However I cannot find any such ability to bind a script to a hotkey ... do I need to add the script file to another location to get it to show up in the available actions list?

The script file is currently added to the shortcuts folder:
.\AppData\Roaming\Realtime Soft\UltraMon\3.1.0\Shortcuts

Specifically I am trying to get the AlwaysOnTop script bound to a hotkey and am using UltraMon 3.1.0 on Windows 7

The location of the script doesn't matter, to create the hotkey select 'Run application or script' from the list of actions, click on Add Hotkey, then click on Browse to select the script you want to run.

Thanks! ... I didn't notice that in the list of actions.

The 'Run application or script' action is notably different than the others, perhaps you could make it its own button? It is more of an 'Add Action' action than an action of its own.

Anyway you could make the Scripts help page a little more useful by updating its wording:

Instead of:
To do this, go to UltraMon Options > Hotkeys, and add a new 'Run application or script' hotkey.

Perhaps:
To do this, go to UltraMon Options > Hotkeys, and select 'Run application or script' in the available actions list, then click 'Add Hotkey' and browse for the script.

The descriptions on the scripts screen really need to be updated. I just downloaded 3 scripts and wanted to assign them to hotkeys.

The first question comes when you download the scripts, trying to figure out where to download them to. The scripts screen provides nothing but confusion for that, since it says,
"To run a script from UltraMon's Shortcuts menu, copy the script to your shortcuts folder. Go to Options > Profiles and Shortcuts for the location of this folder, or choose Shortcuts > Manage Shortcuts from the UltraMon menu to open the folder."

Ok, so I go to the "Profiles and Shortcuts" screen and find there is no info at all there about location of anything. So following the 2nd instruction I directly open the Shortcuts folder, and that is where I downloaded the scripts to. Since there's no instruction on the scripts screen about where to download other than this, the assumption is that is the location to download a script to if you want to make it a hotkey.

Ok, then going to assign the hotkey itself I had the exact same problem as the original poster and ended up coming here to this forum to try and see how on earth I was supposed to add a hotkey for a script. Like the original poster said, the instruction,
"To do this, go to UltraMon Options > Hotkeys, and add a new 'Run application or script' hotkey."
is not adequate at all. When you go to that screen, you have a listing of actions to assign a hotkey to, and an 'Add Hotkey' button.

To have to go through a list of actions like "Move mouse to next monitor" and "Maximize window" and find one labelled "Run application or script" that is magically going to have new options that none of the other actions have is completely non-intuitive.

This needs to be explained MUCH better on the scripts download screen, or even better the Hotkeys tab in the dialog screen needs to partition this option away from the simple hotkey assignments so it is obvious how it works.

I'm actually kind of pissed right now that I just had to waste as much time as I did because of something that could be fixed so extremely easily but is being completely ignored.

Mark.

Sorry to hear that, I have updated the instructions on the script page.
