Forums -> UltraMon™ -> Firefox 4 and "Move window to next monitor"

Hi there,

I have two monitors (1920x1200 and 1600x1200)

I have a Hotkey assigned to the Ultramon function "Move window to next monitor". When I use this hotkey on a maximized Firefox 4 window, it causes the window to move to the other monitor, the window itself is maximized, but the visible portion is shrunk to the "restored" size (the size of the window if you click on the maximize window button to restore it to a smaller size). Here is a picture of what this looks like:

Firefox 4 maximized but not

You can see that the window itself is maximized but the browser is only in the top left corner of the screen and everything else is black.

This happens in UltraMon 3.1.0 on Windows 7 x64. It doesn't happen 100% of the time, but probably a little over 50% of the time when hitting the hotkey.

Changing the Ultramon resize mode between "proportional" and "to fit" does not make a difference, neither does deselecting "take taskbars into account when maximizing to the desktop".

Using the Windows 7 hotkey Windows-Shift-Right or Left correctly moves the window to the other monitor without this side-affect.

So far I haven't been able to reproduce this issue.

One thing you could check: if you go to UltraMon Options > Compatibility, do you have settings configured for Firefox, and if yes, is the 'use alternative method to move maximized window' option checked?

Hi there,

Yes, that setting was enabled (I don't remember every setting it!). When I disabled the setting, Firefox works now!

Thanks,

Matt

Glad to hear that. The setting is enabled by default, unfortunately I don't know why that would cause problems on your system, for me it works fine both with and without the compatibility setting enabled.

If anyone is having issues setting this up for Firefox 4.x and UltraMon, here is the complete solution.

Navigate to:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\RANDOMIZED.default\

Look for a folder called "chrome". If it does not exist, create it now.

Within the chrome folder, open "userChrome.css". If it does not exist, create it now. Be sure the extension is .css and not .css.css or .txt.css or whatever.

Put this into your userChrome.css file:
.tabs-alltabs-button { margin-right: 50px !important; } .tabs-alltabs-box { margin-right: 50px !important; } .tabs-newtab-button { margin-right: 50px !important; }

Save the userChrome.css file and close Firefox. Now when you restart Firefox your UltraMon buttons will no longer overlap your tab controls.
