ok i have a geoforce 9800gt with a main monitor on the dvi port and a secondary on the vga, i would like to be have the desktop stretch across the two monitors as thus far i can ownly have a duplicate or just the desktop background displayed, am i missing something here? ant help very much appreciaed thank you.

When you have just the desktop background displayed on the second monitor, that means you have both monitors working as an extended desktop. Now just drag some of your windows over to the second monitor.
