Scenario:
Windows XP machine on a corporate network UltraMon 2.7.1 32-bit installed and running for over a year. A corporate merger forced the move the machine to a new domain. THE USER PROFILE STAYED THE SAME, it was simply linked with a new set of credentials for the new domain. After logging in with the new credentials, UltraMon ran through a configuration routine that looked right for the new user setup. UltraMon works.
Problem: Smart Taskbar does not launch at Windows startup Smart Taskbar does not show up on the ultramon systray context menu Smart Taskbar does not show up in the UltraMon options dialog
If I browse to UltraMonTaskbar.exe, it runs and places the appropriate taskbars.
Attempted solutions: http://tenmov.es/2009/01/15/how-to-recover-missing-smart-taskbar-in-ultramon/ No Success
Install Ultramon 3.1 The install tells me my key is invalid, even though I know it is a corporately issued multi user key.
Any ideas? Thanks.

If you don't have a tab for the Smart Taskbar under UltraMon Options, this would mean that the feature isn't installed, I'm not sure though why UltraMonTaskbar.exe would still be present in the installation folder. I would recommend reinstalling UltraMon.
Regarding 3.1.0: this requires a version 3 license. If you purchased after Mar 30, 2007, your license was upgraded for free.

Thank you for the reply.
As you can see in my post, one of my troubleshooting attempts was to reinstall, and it didn't work.
Based on your response, my theory is this: When we transfer machines to the new domain, we simply 'reallocate' the user profile. I did not know this was possible, but the sysadmins did a great job. So, I keep my user profile...even though I login with new creds.
HOWEVER, I do not keep the user registry. I know this because I had to re-enter some stuff for my softphone client that was stored in the user reg. IF the SmartTaskbar stores things in the user reg, it might no longer be there.
Either way, I can re-install. How do I need to investigate my key?
It was purchased for multiple users (I Recommended UltraMon highly :), so we have a key that works for 3 or 5 users I believe.
What process do I need to follow to get the software to accept the key? I can inquire of the purchasing group within my company how to undertake it. They have my key on record and have it listed under my name: Malachi Russler.
Thanks.

Missing settings won't matter to UltraMon as it will use defaults, but Windows Installer which is used for the setup stores settings in the registry as well, if those get messed up you could get problems like this, but I would expect an uninstall followed by a reboot and reinstall to fix the problem.

A fresh install with version 3 appears to have fixed the issue.
I also used my original company name for the registration dialog (we have been purchased by ADT since). I am not sure if that made the difference or the reinstall.
Either way, I am up and running Ultramon 3.1 and my smart taskbars are back to loading automatically, as well as being in the context menu for the systray icon.
Thank you so much! And keep doing an awesome job! I couldn't stand using my computer without it.
