Forums -> UltraMon™ -> Suggestion: Enable WinXP Smart Taskbar display even in Win7

Hello,

First I'd like to say that I love Ultramon. I've gotten to the point where I simply cannot function effectively at home or at work without it. I've long been a fan of simplicity, and as such, still run Windows XP on my home computer. At work I am forced to use Windows 7, but use it in classic mode so the taskbar functions similar to XP.

However, Ultramon detects the OS it is running on and displays the smart taskbar in that format. This is actually pretty awesome and I love that it has that capability, but I would love it even more if it was toggleable. It would be so nice to not have to settle for one XP taskbar and one Win7 taskbar at work. Clearly, nothing to cry about, but at the same time, I imagine it might be an easy thing to implement.

Whatever you do, thanks for making an absolutely amazing product.

Best Regards,
Nick Bollow

Are you using the Windows Classic theme on Windows 7? If yes, the taskbars should basically look like on Windows XP.

Yes I am using Windows 7 in classic mode. It is a VM that I access via remote desktop connection -- might this have something to do with it?

Here's a screenshot showcasing the issue: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/215/mismatchedtaskbars.png/

Sorry you might have to right-click and 'View Image' to see that zoomed in enough for relevant details. And by Windows 7 classic mode I did mean classic theme :) Thanks for the reply and any further help/ideas.

Thanks for the screenshot, I see what you mean, UltraMon should use the same button style as the main taskbar (buttons with labels, etc).

If you're not using UltraMon 3.1.0, try if upgrading fixes the problem, there was a fix for an issue where UltraMon would ignore taskbar group policy settings.

Sadly I am indeed using UltraMon 3.1.0. If you have a win7 machine handy maybe see if you can replicate the issue? If you can't, then I'll know that it's some weird local settings that I have to muck about with. Damn only-partially-customizable work computers!

Thanks again regardless.

So far I haven't been able to reproduce this, if you go to Control Panel > Taskbar and Start Menu, is Taskbar Buttons set to Never Combine?
