Forums -> UltraMon™ -> Can't select taskbar on Windows 7 when it has things on it

With Windows 7 I find an annoyance if not a major problem is that there's nowhere to "grab" the taskbar to move it to my second monitor, if the taskbar has a lot of windows open, or even a handful.

I move my taskbar to the extension monitor once a day at least when moving my laptop from one place to another (I make the extension monitor the one with the start menu, in other words) and I'm always having to close folders and apps if there are more than about three or four open so I can find a clear space on the task bar to select it to move it.

This:

Doesn't seem to work on my system; I can select the start menu and close it, but the focus is not on the taskbar afterwards as it says there. The only way to get the focus on it is to click a clear space, and again then I have to close folders and windows to create one to click on.

Seems a strange oversight on the part of MS that you can't just select the task bar even if it's full (full again meaning very few items) but there we are. Or if I'm missing something obvious, please let me know.

Thanks

Just a follow-up: One solution I just discovered is in the taskbar properties menu, if I select "Always combine, hide labels" for the Toolbar Buttons, it reduces them to squares instead of wider rectangles, since it doesn't need space to include the name/label. That leaves a lot more space to select on the taskbar at the right. That will do for me, I'd sort of prefer to see the names but it's not important.

I had tried "Use small buttons" before but it didn't reduce the width much since they still had labels written on them, and somehow hadn't seen this control yet or didn't realize what it would do.

Two other solutions for this:

- use the MoveWinTbar script to move the taskbar to the other monitor

- set the external monitor as primary, the main taskbar will then get moved to the external monitor

Thanks for that. I just downloaded the script and set it up as a hotkey combination, much easier, and now I can have my wider toolbar buttons back.

I don't want the extension monitor to be the primary monitor all of the time, so that option isn't as workable for me, but this one is great.

Also good to know about the script library and how to use them, will look at the rest.
