Hello! I'm hoping I can get some help here to figure out a little problem I'm having trying to enable output to my television. Here's my current setup...

Windows 7 Pro
Radeon HD 6870
Two Acer H233H monitors on the DVI outputs
Vizio E320VL 720p television on the HDMI output

Windows won't let me enable the television, and its default resolution which is grayed out and unchangable is at 1080p. Ultramon won't enable the television either, but it's default resolution is 800 X 600, also unchangable.

Anything I should be checking out? There's not a lot of resources in getting this kind of setup to work, so any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks for all of your time!

Can you enable the TV (either via Windows or UltraMon) if you disable one of the monitors first?

Hmm! It seems I can, and now I can change the television output to 720p in the Windows resolution config. I can't enable the other monitor now, though. I don't suppose there is a way to have both monitors and the TV as one extended desktop?

Thanks again!

Sounds like the video card can only drive two displays at a time.

Updating the video card driver might be worth a try as well though, it's odd that you couldn't enable the TV via UltraMon without disabling one of the monitors first, UltraMon should do this automatically (only on Windows 7) if the video card can only drive two displays at a time.

Man, it seems I was mistaken in assuming that because the card has two DVI and and an HDMI out that it could support all those things at once. How silly. The only other output on this card is a DisplayPort and it seems they want me to buy an adapter if I want to get everything working the way I want. I'm not sure what Eyefinity is now either, I had assumed it was just AMD's term for multi monitor support. This is a lot of stuff to figure out and I've not really had a gpu this new before, so I'm a bit overwhelmed!

Man, these adapters don't appear to be cheap... I think I'm about to give up on the idea and just deal with what I got.

Thanks for trying!

ATI/AMD cards support at most two non-DisplayPort monitors. DisplayPort to single-link DVI adapters run $25-30 on Newegg. (Search for "active displayport adapter". Passive adapters won't work; make sure the box picture has an ATI Eyefinity logo if you're not sure.) Of course, you then also have to have a DVI-to-HDMI cable, but I got one of bundled with one of my monitors.

DP to Dual-link DVI adapters are much more expensive and are overkill if you're planning to convert the signal to HDMI.

Thanks guys, I dug into this a bit more and for my setup it looks like all I need is that active DP to DVI cable. The HDMI out will go to my TV so it can carry an audio signal and I'll have the other monitor on a native DVI out. This should work, I believe.

The trick to all of this for me was realizing that a third display would have to be fed signal from the Display Port due to hardware limitations.
