if ultramon starts, the following error is shown on the screen.
Version 3.1.0 OS 6.0.6000 x64 Sourcefile: .\ButtonRendererVistaComposited.cpp Line: 91 Returncode:0 Last error: 1814
Any ideas?

You'll get this if UltraMon is running in Vista compatibility mode on Windows 7, to fix this go to the folder C:\Program Files\UltraMon, then right-click UltraMon.exe, select Properties from the menu, then select the Compatibility tab and uncheck 'Run this program in compatibility mode'.

Having this same issue on Win 7 x64 fresh install and new install of Ultramon. Checked the compatibility settings and it was off, which I believe is the default. I tried enabling and disabling but still same error upon start of ultramon. Thanks in advance.

Jerry, are you sure you get the exact same error message? If yes, it has to be the compatibility setting, otherwise the OS version wouldn't be 6.0, which is Vista.

I am running Win7 64bit OS, and I am receiving the following error:
--------------------------- UltraMon --------------------------- UltraMon encountered a fatal error and will exit.
More information: Version: 3.0.3 OS: 6.1.6801 x64 Source file: .\ButtonRendererVistaComposited.cpp Line: 43 Return value: 0 Last error: 1814
I checked the Compatibility Setting in UltraMonDesktop.exe > setting was off.
I have also applied the Registry fixes: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Realtime Soft\UltraMon\3.0.4\Window Buttons - Maximize to Desktop Button - change value to 0 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Realtime Soft\UltraMon\3.0.4\Window Buttons - Move Window Button - change value to 0
I have read through the forums, and I am not sure what else to try.
Thanks for your help!

Upgrading to version 3.0.9 or later will fix the problem, 3.0.3 doesn't have proper support for Windows 7.
