Having been using Ultramon for several years, I have recently been experiencing a problem with the taskbar.

Each time I start my PC I get a message saying:

Ultramon Taskbar encountered a fatal error and will exit.

More Information:
Version: 3.1.0
OS: 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 x64
Source File: \DeskTaskBarManager.cpp
Line:212
Return Value: -2147287035
Last Error: 5

Ultramon is partially running, I can click to move windows from one monitor to the other but the smart taskbar does not run.

If I try and restart the smart taskbar after the cPC has booted I get the same message.

I have confirmed that Ultramon is not running in Vista compatibility mode.

Using the Windows Control Panel/Programmes etc to repair the programme made no difference.

Removing the programme and reinstalling the programme dis not solve the issue.

What do I do now?

You'll get this if the Smart Taskbar, UltraMonTaskbar.exe, is denied access to its configuration file.

To fix this, open properties for the folder C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Realtime Soft\UltraMon\<version>, then select the Security tab and make sure your user account has Full Control over the folder.

If that doesn't help, you could also try if deleting the file TaskbarBandState in that folder fixes the problem, UltraMon will then recreate the file when you start it the next time.

Christian,

Thanks for the info. Step 1 did not wait but deleting the TaskbarBandState file worked. One point to not when doing this you need to rebout the PC to regenerate the file and the Windows startup will be very slow on the reboot but subsequent boots will be normal.
