Is it possible to have it so that the mouse pointer will not transition to another screen unless a key is held while moving? For example, my main desktop is on a computer monitor while i also have an HDTV connected that the only thing that goes on it is my media player and when I am working on my desktop I don't want the mouse going to the HDTV. Is this possible?

Not directly, but one way to do this is to change the position of the TV via Display Properties so that it is to the right and below the main monitor, only connected to the monitor via the TV's top-left corner.
This way you'll need to move the mouse through the bottom-right corner of the monitor in order to get it onto the TV, which pretty much prevents you from accidentally moving the mouse there.
