Forums -> UltraMon™ -> Monitor switches to wrong resolution

I've been using UltraMon for many years. Recently something has happened (after moving to a new office and IT touched my machine). I have a Dell E2210H 1920x1080 (via DVI) and a Samsung Synchmaster 175V 1280x1024 (via VGA) on a Radeon 4550. When Windows7 boots the screens are fine then I login and the resolution is fine initially but about 15-30 seconds after I log in (I presume when UltraMon is starting) my 1920x1080 monitor (which is set as the primary) switches to 1024x768 resolution. I have to go into UltraMon after every reboot and set it back to 1920x1080. Ideas?

Make sure you haven't set up a display profile which gets applied at login, a shortcut to the profile would be in Start Menu > Programs > Startup. You can just delete the shortcut if present.

The only item in the startup menu is the UltraMon application itself.

In that case my guess would be an issue with the video card driver. To confirm that the issue isn't related to UltraMon, try if you still have the problem without UltraMon installed.

If updating the video card driver doesn't fix the issue, there would be a couple of workarounds, you could set up a display profile which gets applied after a specified delay, another option would be a custom script which waits until the primary has been set to 1024x768, then changes it back to 1920x1080.

Ok. I uninstalled UltraMon and the problem continued so it wasn't UltraMon. After doing some more searching I found others using Microsoft Live Mesh having the same issue. The remote desktop part of it does some strange things behind the scenes. I uninstalled Windows Live Mesh and reinstalled it and everything is fine now. Sorry for the bother but thanks for the help!

No problem, glad to hear the issue is fixed.
