Forums -> UltraMon™ -> Patch for Firefox issue with UltraMon 3.2.0
Christian Studer   2012-07-21 12:01
I have uploaded a patch for the issue with the window buttons not getting added to Firefox with UltraMon 3.2.0:

32-bit: patch_um_3.2.0_x32_1.zip
64-bit: patch_um_3.2.0_x64_1.zip

To install the patch, first create a backup of UltraMon.exe and UltraMonUiAcc.exe from folder C:\Program Files\UltraMon, then close UltraMon and copy the files from the ZIP file to C:\Program Files\UltraMon.

Please let me know if the patch fixes the issue for you.

The Firefox patch worked OK for my W8 system, {yes, I removed the "alternate method"} and if I don't post another reply you may assume it is working on my W7 installation also. (I have a dual-boot setup, and a backup is running on W8 now.)

Works on W7 (x64) Enterprise (N) SP1. Dual graphics adapters (Intel HD & StarTech USB external).

Firefox patch worked perfectly for me on Win 7 X64 Enterprise with WaterFox 13.0. Thanks for the fix!

I'm having some problems with this patch. I only lose the toolbar buttons when running the latest 14.0.1 version of Firefox. Also, the buttons seem to vanish as soon as I set Firefox to be the default browser using the general advanced settings from with Firefox.

If I drop back to the 13.1 version of Firefox the problems with the toolbar buttons disappearing goes away. When I added the two patched .exe files you posted, the toolbar button issue was fixed but a new problem surfaced. When I click on a hypertext link on an Outlook message, Firefox opens the browser window twice. I deleted Firefox and set the default browser to IE9 and had no problems with hyper text links.

I seems that the problems are specific to the 14.0.1 release of Firefox.

Dan, which version of Windows are you using?

I tested with 14.0.1 on 64-bit Windows 7, worked fine for me with the patch, also when set as the default browser. I tested with Outlook as well, but clicking on a link only opened a single Firefox instance.

Christian,

I am using 64 bit Windows 7 SP1 and all Windows updates, with 64 bit Ultramon. I will have to do some more testing to make sure I can replicate the behavior I described. Of course, it could be a configuration issue on my computer. I also use nVidia nView desktop managers for things like snapping windows to the monitor edges and other window control settings. It has never caused problems with Ultramon in the past.

One other piece of information on my computer configuration. I am running Outlook 2010, the 32 bit version.

Let me know if you can reproduce the issue with the buttons missing from 14.0.1. If you're interested I could then create a test version of the software to try to determine what's going wrong.

Christian,

Thanks for your prompt attention to my messages. The problem seems to have cleared up. I think it could be related to the fact that I was using my regular user account when I installed both the latest UltraMon release and your two patch files. I deleted and then reinstalled using my Administrator account, and also did the same with Firefox. So far the problem seems to have vanished.

I guess entering your Administrator password and installing from your regular user account is not exactly the same as being logged in as Administrator when you do installs and patching of software.

Glad to hear that.

Unfortunately I don't know if that might have caused the problem, I install software the same way on my main system, but don't have Firefox installed there.
