Is anyone familier with how (if its possible) to get a GF2 MX400 and a Trident PCI 9440 chipset to work together in 98se? The only other person I could find listed here on the site said that when he tried to enable the other monitor, it wouldn't do it. And thats the same exact problem I'm having. Any thoughts? If this doesn't work, I'm going to go pick up an old S3 or something from a scrapshop down the road from me on monday. I wanna use this second monitor!

Thanks.

My two cents. *please* don't use S3 :)

try Matrox and/or ATI's adapters, they work *much* better.

Why not S3? I've seen people here have nothing but success using them. An as for ATi... I'm really dubious about using their products because I've had very serious problems in the past with them. But Matrox, I don't think I've used a card of theirs so I can't make a decision. Though really I'm limited to what I can get o $20 or so down at this computer scrap shop. I only want the second monitor for desktop extension, not gaming or anything.. I won't try that until I can get another GF2 or something.

Don't get a S3, unless you can get it *really* cheap, $5 or so, 'cause the picture quality tend to be *ugly* on these cards. I had one of those hooked to a nearly 20 years old 14" monitor and I could clearly see the difference between the S3 and my ViperV330. And that difference is yet muliplied by a lot when using a newer monitor. (I almost returned one used monitor as broken, but then noticed that I was testing it with the S3... :)

If you get the chance, go with Matrox. (Millennium/I/II/etc.) They are really top of the soup for any generation. (My old Matrox Mystique 220 equals my GF2 Ultra in picture quality and it cost only 10 euros :)

Ok thanks for the input I'll take it to heart when I'm out today looking at what old PCI cards I can get get. I'm using an old Compaq 150i monitor. Standard 15" monitor, 1024x768, lowsy .28dp. The picture on the monitor is still nice, despite some minor flaws (such as the image bein gslightly tilted off horizon by about 3-4 pixels). But I need good image comnig from the video card as well since I want to span Photoshop across the other monitor when I work on large images.

Thanks for the suggestions and help. Gotta be off to work now. :)
