I've been looking over the GeForce 4's specs. It's max resolution is 2048*1536, at 60Hz, which I see (2x1024)*(2x768). Does this mean, if I run two monitors using nView at 1024*768, the maximum refresh rate is 60Hz?
Please tell me it isn't! I want to use a dual monitor system for video editing, and 60Hz just won't cut it....
thanks if you answer, multiple-display gurus....

You can run each monitor at for example 1200/1600/32bit/100hz,because each output has a ramdac with 350mhz.So don`t worry.
Sometimes 1200/1600 is "only" possible with 85hz,although the hardware(ramdac)should be able to do it at 100hz.According to gainward support, the problem is the nvidia driver.

Thanks for replying so quickly. I thought thats what the two RAMDACs meant. Is it true that the MX400 only had one? So I'll have no problems with 2 monitors at 1024x768 at 85Hz each. Or 1280x1024 at 85 Hz each?

The MX 400 also had two,as far as I know, but the secondary was much slower. If you go for a GF4 Ti you won`t have any problems up to 1200/1600/85hz/32bit for each monitor. Not totally sure about the GF4 MX,but I guess,it`s the same ramdacs.

Quick explination of RAMDAC's. A RAMDAC is a chip on the card designed to convert the digital output from the GPU itself, to the analog signal that your CRT (this is only applicable for CRT's) monitor can display. Dual RAMDAC's, equals dual monitors. And so on. The GeForce2, as I understand, had limited, or experimental support for supporting this. And the second head was slower. I'm not sure how accurate this is, so please don't stone me if I'm wrong. The GeForce3 was unable to support dual RAMDAC's, hence why you never saw a dual head GF3. But now, at long last, the GF4 has full support for dual heads, and those gamers out there who like to game over multiple monitors can do so with style!

I can confirm from experience - I am using an Abit Siluro Ti4400 GF4 card to drive 2 monitors at 1600*1200@85Hz.

There is reportedly a lot a variance in GF4's 2d image quality - I settled on the Siluro after a review at www.tomshardware.com. The 2d image quality (ignoring the faster refresh, which is why I changed) of the Siluro is as good as or slightly better than the Matrox G450 it replaced using my 2* p220F-2 viewsonic monitors
