System: HP Omnibook 4150 (laptop) - 256MB RAM - Win 2000 ATI RAGE P/M Mobility AGP 2X built-in adapter Matrox Millenium II PCI card in docking station
Before multimon, I was able to get 1600x1200 out of the ATI card setup (single monitor).
Now with 2 monitors, the monitor running off the ATI can only go up to 1024x768 at 60Hz.
I changed the BIOS primary video adapter to [Internal] to get it to not disable the internal video adapter with the card present, but now the internal resolution is severely limiting on a 21 monitor. The adapter supposedly has 8MB, and the resolution via the Matrox supports 1600x1200, but not on the ATI.
Any idea why the resolution is so much less now?

I have the same problem, and am wondering how to get by it as well. I have a Voodoo 5- 5500 as my primary card and a 4mb Sis 6326 as my seconday card. a 4 meg card should be able to do 1280x1024x16 (or 8, for that matter), but no matter what I do I can't get it to go any higher than 1024x768. Is there any inherent limit with multi-monitor in this area?

There's no inherent limitation of display resolution with multiple monitors, I guess that the monitor profile you're using doesn't allow any higher resolutions. Try changing the monitor type to resolve this.
Regarding the problem with the ATI Mobility: as far as I know, this chipset has dual output, so maybe it switches to 'dual-mode' if another adapter is present, and limits the video RAM available to a single display channel? Just a wild guess though...

I just encountered the same problem. I have been using multimon for several years... NEC 5D 19" on ATI All-in-Wonder Pro @ 1024 x 768 NEC 6FGp 21" on ATI Xpert 98 @ 1280 x 1024
I just replaced the NEC 5D with an Envision EN-5100e LCD. This monitor supports a max resoluition of 1024 x 768 - it's native resolution. After this new monitor was installed, the resolution of *both* ATI cards is now limited to 1024x768. I have tried selecting other monitor profiles and uninstalling / reinstalling the ATI drivers. No success. Does anyone know how to fix this??? I really need 1280x1024 on the 6FGp!

ATI in Dual Screen mode both displays have the same refresh rate

I found a solution to this problem. If the primary monitor supports PnP, it tells windows what it's maximum resolution is. This seems to limit the secondary monitor(s?) to that resolution or lower. It does not matter what monitor profile is used, what the maximum resolution of the video card is, or what refresh rates are used.
The solution was to disable PnP on the primary monitor. This was done by cutting the PCB trace from the SDA line (pin 4) of the PnP EEPROM (24C21) to the DE-15 'VGA' connector. After this modification (and a reboot) both video cards could be set to the maximum resolution that they support.
Do not attempt to make this modification if you don't have electronics experience. CRT monitors have dangerous voltages present even when they are unplugged (LCDs typically don't).

This was on Windows 98, other versions may behave differntly.
