hi,
some of my windows are popping up in the middle of both screens (for example the log on screen) is there anyway to eliminate this?

Sounds like you are using stretched (or spanned) mode instead of independent displays mode. Changing to independent displays mode will fix this.

i think i have independent displays, but where do i go to verify this?

Take a look at Display Properties > Settings, if two enabled monitors are shown you are using independent displays (assuming you have a 2-monitor system).
How the multi-monitor mode is changed depends on the video card, but it is usually a custom tab under Advanced settings.

I'm getting a dialog box that is split onto two monitors, also. The software is called Auction Scoop 1.07 and the dialog is add new auction.
It does this whether Ultramon (2.0 RC1) is running or not. I'm using independent displays mode.
