i'm using a matrox g450dh during last year
i've recently bought an XELO Radeon 7500 (powered by ATI), the 3d and 2d features are great but windows only detect one monitor under windows 2k (in win xp an 98 works ok). i can use two monitors but configuring a big 2048x768 monitor, but i need windows detects two separated monitors, because a lot of software what i'm using need this.

You recently bought an outdated ati card, you haven't tried to find new drivers yet, I suppose. Go to www.rage3d.com check out their file section and you will have before you a plethora of kickass thirdparty drivers for radeon, if you can't get multi-monitor out of the new drivers then you bought the wrong card.
