I have a triple headed system running Bill 2000 (server, shouldn't matter though). I have GF2GTS primary, centre monitor and a Matrox G450 PCI DH driving the second and tertiary monitors, left and right. All monitors are at different resolutions, but all 32bit.

My problem is that trying to set up a wallpaper using ultramon just doesn't work. I can set it up OK, press apply and nothing changes as the wallpaper. Tried spanning a large .jpg and doing a grdient, no luck. Tried the same and different images per monitor, and the different styles. If I OK out of the wallpaper set up and go back in the settings have reverted back to none.

Any ideas?

Please check if the wallpaper bitmap has been created and if it is set as the active wallpaper:

- UltraMon should have created a bitmap named <wallpaper-name>.bmp in "My Documents\My Wallpapers"

- in Display Properties > Desktop, <wallpaper-name> should be the active wallpaper, and position should be set to Tile

Wallpaper managers might interfere with the UltraMon wallpaper, for example the nView virtual desktop manager or Webshots.

Yes, there's 2. Default.bmp and Test.bmp. 2 corresponding .wallpaper files too. But the bmps are actually just plain black files, even though for testing purposes I selected C:\WINNT\lanma256.bmp to be fully stretched in UM. The preview in UM looks correct, but the wallpaper it generates (and it is modifying the test.bmp) is just a black 3456x1032 bitmap. That resolution is correct for the layout of monitors.

After a reboot of my system, and some messing about with making sure nview was off, the wallpaper has now changed to just black, like the BMP above. And UM seems to be applying the settings correctly.

nview and the matrox addons are all off. No other 3rd party crap is installed, active desktop is off too.

Here's some screenshots to hopefully make it a little clearer:

Nick,
I'm sure Chris has some better suggestions, but I'm experiencing wallpaper problems too. I also am using nVidia drivers with nView.

What I finally did was clean install of the drivers. When it asked to configure thenView wizard, I just canceled out, so it didn't get configured at all. This seemed to work better than just disabling it afterwards.

Also, in the Ultramon desktop, try configuring wallpaper style to center instead of stretch. You've alreadt created a bitmap that spans your entire desktop. I don't think you need to stretch it. Still leave windows wallpaper properties to tile.

This is working for me in WinXP, not sure about Windows2000, but might be worth a try 'til someone more knowledgeable comes along.

I think I have found the problem: when stretching an image by a large factor, the operation can fail, and you'll get a wallpaper without the image.

An update is available that fixes this problem:

Windows 98/Me: umdesk_w9x_rc2.1.zip
Windows 2000/XP: umdesk_wnt_rc2.1.zip

To install the update, extract the ZIP to your UltraMon directory, usually C:\Program Files\UltraMon.

Please let me know if the update fixes the problem you were experiencing.
