Hello
I have the following setup:
Main Monitor: 3440x1440
Secondary: 1920x1080
CPU: i7 4770k
GPU: overclocked GTX 670

I am mirroring the main monitor to the second one and it works. But every time the frame updates, the main monitor stutters for a bit. It's pretty annoying for video. I tried different refresh rates, but it always stutters. None of my components show any bottleneck. I also tried to set 60 Hz in the registry but to be honest it looks the same as 30Hz to me. When I turn mirror off, Video is smooth again.

The performance of the secondary is of minor concern because it's only used for an ambilight clone, so 30Hz refresh and occasional stutter is not a problem, but stutter on the main monitor is very distracting.

What could be the cause of the stuttering?

Which version of Windows are you using?

Windows 8.1 64bit

Is the stuttering clearly visible? I've done some testing on Windows 8.1 with Windows Media Player in fullscreen mode, but am not sure if there is any stutter when mirroring is enabled. But video playback on the mirror screen was clearly less smooth than on the main screen (running at 30 fps).

UltraMon mirroring copies the whole screen from the source to the mirror target monitor, so it might be possible that some delay gets introduced, depending on how this gets handled by the operating system/video card driver.

You can easily see the stuttering when you look at some smooth transitioning, something like the ending credits of a movie. Then just toggle mirror mode (I use the ToggleMirroring2 provided on this site) on and off and you can clearly see it.
Maybe it's even easier to spot if you use a slower refresh rate like 0.5/s. This way you should see the otherwise smooth transitioning jump every 2 seconds.

I'm also testing ActualMultiple and it's less noticable there but not completely smooth either. As far as I can see Ultramon and AMM are the only softwares that allow me to mirror with different resolutions...

It's not just on the video player, it's the whole screen. As I said, the screen with the mirrored feed on it is not really a problem for me since I don't look at it. It just goes into a raspberryPi to calculate the colors for the backlighting. It linearly smoothes over 100ms anyways.
Stuttering on the main monitor that is the source for the mirror is the problem.

I have now tested with 0.5 fps as well, but so far haven't seen the issue. Could also be due to the higher resolution you're using, my test system is 1280x1024 on the main monitor and 1024x768 on the mirror.

Installing the latest drivers for the video card might be worth a try if you haven't done this already, apart from that I don't think there's much that can be done about this.

If you don't necessarily need to mirror the main monitor, one solution might be to run a second instance of the video directly on the secondary monitor.
