I'm running win7 ultimate and when the laptop is in the docking station; display_1=laptop, display_2=ext_monitor, display_3=ext_monitor. In this setup, the primary is display_2 and everything works as expected.
My problem is when I run the laptop standalone and away from dock. Everything works as expected until I close the lid and the 10 min inactivity timeout is reached. At that point, the screen goes black and nothing can be done to bring it back. I've got "on resume, display login screen" enabled and under power settings I've got the "close lid" set to "do nothing".
My thought is (maybe) when I run the laptop standalone, UltraMon still thinks that display_2 is the primary and is displaying the login screen on a monitor that is not even connected. Security requires the "on resume, display login screen" be enabled so turning it off is not an option.
Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
Thanks, JohnR

Are the two external monitors connected to the dock, or is one of them connected directly to the laptop (for example to a USB video card)?

Thanks for the quick reply.
The laptop only supports 2 monitors... the laptop screen and one external monitor. I bought a usb-to-vga adapter and that drives the 2nd external monitor. The usb-to-vga adapter is plugged into the docking station.
The problem happens when the laptop is standalone with no external monitors of any kind.

Just to clarify... when running on the dock, the primary monitor is plugged into the dock via the mini displayport and the other monitor is plugged into the dock via usb + adapter.

In that case I would expect the operating system to set the internal monitor as primary and sole enabled monitor when you undock the laptop, but maybe that doesn't happen for some reason. When you undock the laptop the next time, go to UltraMon menu > Display Settings and check if only the internal monitor is shown as enabled.
