I have a Compaq Presario 700 that has a S3 Twister K video card in it. All the drivers are updated and I have another monitor plugged in. This gives me two monitors, my laptop flat panel and a Dell external monitor. I have a mirror image on the Dell monitor but I can't get my computer to recognize there are two monitors in order to use the second monitor to show slides and what not. I have Windows XP, what am I missing? Can I do this, help please!

Jeremy,
In short, the particular S3 chipset in your system will not support multiple monitors. Very few of S3's chipset will and this is not one of them.
I might suggest you read up on Christian's notes regarding multiple monitor setups with laptops. You can read about that here.
Good Luck!
