I currently run a dualhead geforce 4 4200 at 2560x1024x32@85hz. I want to add a 3rd monitor. What is my best bet for a 2nd video card that will still allow the taskbar to span all 3 monitors?

none really. unless you go for a triple head MATROX Parhelia.

You can add almost all pci card.
I done with with 1 ATI Raedon 7000 (VE) to get dual, and add 3 pci appian dual monitor card = total 8 displays
