subj
I have win XP and AGP tnt2 ultra and old PCIs3 video cards
I can run s3 as a promary and tnt as secondary just fine. however I d like to add one more s3 card for third monitor
as I ve heard officualy XP does not support multi monitor mode for S3 card however in multimon database there are some entries of system with S3 cards as primary video .... so experts tell me your opinion
thank you all

You can't use multiple old S3 cards with Windows XP (or Windows 2000), the reason for this is that the S3 card needs to be primary in BIOS in order to work, and only a single video card can be primary in BIOS.

any seconday monitors have to be win 98 compliant. the s3 chip isnt. as a result it has to be primary. THerefore you are limited to one non 98 compliant card per system.

I have a NVidia V770D AGP and an S3 PCI. ood setup but the prob is that games that default to primary run on the lesser card :( i'm getting UltraMon to see if it can alviate the situation.

I'm having a similar problem. I have an AGP card (on board, no slot) as my primary and an old Number 9 331 (S3 Trio32/64) as the secondary in a PCI slot. This setup worked fine in Win98, but I just upgraded to win2k Pro and now I get a "This device cannot start" error in the win2k device manager. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers but no luck.

Christian said no multiple S3's in win2k, but I only have one S3. Can I run this setup in win2k or do I need a different card?

ok guys im running a geforce 4 and an s3 card in my heap (computer), no regarding that last post dude set your "initial display device" or "primary display device" in your bios from agp to pci. it needs to be the primary card because it doesnt support multiple monitors as a slave card.

Here's what I have at work, and it works fine except that NView Desktop will not run, so I can't use it's special features.

Card 1: AGP, Nvidia Riva TNT2 M64 chipset, v41.09
Card 2: PCI, S3 ViRGE DX (375) chipset

I did have to set the PCI card as primary in the BIOS, but I set the AGP to primary in Windows 2000 (Windows 2000 doesn't care which card is primary in BIOS).

Please tell me. Does XP support this as well? Make AGP Secondary in Bios, but make it primary in XP ?

I think it should work the same under XP. I ran an AGP and a S3-PCI under W2K and it worked perfectly. Just set the PCI card as primary in your BIOS and then set the AGP card as primary under W2K.
