Present system:

AGP ATI 9000 64mb
PCI ATI Rage Pro 8mb

Two matched 21 inch Cornerstone Monitors.

Everything runs fine and has been rock stable. Not a lick of trouble.
However the cards are mis-matched as far as capability is concerned.

The Rage Pro comes no where near using the full capability of the
Monitor it is driving so I want to upgrade the PCI card.

Any suggestion for a reasonably priced PCI card that meets these
minimum specs:

1920 x 1440 32 bit at 85hz NI in 2d (this would match the ATI 9000)
Must be stable and work well with the ATI 9000.

Currently available cards under $100 US only.

This is strictly a working machine, no 3d no games etc. It is used
for GIS and Cad work only in 2d.

An obvious question I failed to ask:

The ATI 9000 can drive two monitors with an adaptor (which I don't have).

Question:
How much, if any, will the performance suffer trying to drive two monitors using the 9000 as a dual head at these high resolutions, color depths, and refresh rates? Can it drive two monitors at once at 1920 x 1440 32 bit at 85hz NI?

My ATI documentation is silent on this. My bet is that the 9000 will not be able to do it.

My assumption has always been that for performance and flexibility a two card system is needed unless you are using very high-end workstation cards which are essentially two cards mounted on one physical form.

Anyone?

With 2D, I don't think performance would be an issue. My only concern would be if the card can handle 2 monitors with the settings you use.

If you can't find out if the card can handle those settings for dual outputs, then you might want to buy an adapter (often under $10 shipped), and test it yourself.

http://www.NewEgg.com/ has adapters, and lots of video cards. I think I paid $9 shipped for the adapter from them last year.
