Forums -> Multiple monitors -> Mixing ATI card with nVIDIA?

Hi guys, I have discovered with the help of this forum recently to do independent color profiling under WinXP, I need to have two display cards.

I already have a Radeon VE AGP card which has dual display, so now I need a PCI card. Knowing the inferior quality of ATI cards, I am planning to add an nVIDIA PCI card.

So my question is, will using ATI and nVIDIA card on the same system cause problems? Do I install two different set of drivers? ATI has its own Catalyst driver, and I know nVIDIA has something called "nView", will these two drivers conflict?

I am not sure if you'll have problems with the radeon ve agp and a nvidia card but my ati radeon 7000 causes the monitor connected to it to blink periodically. Its driving me crazy I am about to buy another nvidia card.

My System setup:
3 LCD monitors
1 ATI Radeon 7000 (driver: 6.14.10.6387 : 9/12/2003)
1 Dual NVidia GeForce4 MX 440 (driver: 4.5.2.3 :7/28/2003)
WinXp sp 1 (with all critial patches applied)

Yeah I am experiencing the "blinking" too. Actually I would call it "violent refreshing" as I can hear my Sony 17" click rapidly and loudly every time I boot up.

Actually I believe one of my Sony 17" is damaged due to this.

Bottom line, the Radeon VE/7000 sucks and that's why I am looking for a replacement and second display card soon.

I am running NVidia FX5200 AGP and an ATI 4Meg Monster II PCI and a Herculese 32 Meg PCI with no problems .... drivers seem to detect the right video card and install fine.

Game play flawlessly :)

When I have an issue with LCD monitors flashing repeatedly I have found that lowering your color to 16 bit seems to solve the problem this problem seems to occur when using the DVI interface. I recently built a trading machine with an ATI 9600 with TV Tuner as the primary display and a Nvidia quadro nvs 400 for a total of 6 displays works great you must remove all drivers first then install the ATI card use the provided CD for drivers then update drivers via the website then install the Nvidia card with the latest nview 3.0 software do not use the1st pci slot for the second video card. I use an ASUS p4c800 deluxe 2 gig RAM so far seems very stable and the TV works well.

I had a similar problem. I had to do a BIOs up date to recognize the AGP 9800 as primary monitor.

I was going to post some ideas to fixing problems, but I think Jack pretty much cleared up all the how-to, do's and don'ts
