hey I have an issue that is killing me, I have 2 monitors on a matrox gs550 at work, we just started implimenting a new java based secure messenger called Sigaba, I have ultramon 2.3 and the latest version of java installed but as soon as I start the messenger ultramon starts freaking out the move and maximize buttons don't work, the move and maximize are blank when I right click an item on the task bar, I get around it by restarting ultramon everytime it fixes it but then my sigaba starts freezing, I would love to judt toss sigaba but we need it for work. Any help would be greatly apriciated

Sounds like the messenger installs a so-called hook, as does UltraMon, and the two hooks have a compatibility issue.
Unfortunately Sigaba doesn't seem to have a trial version available, I would need to install the software for further troubleshooting.
BTW, are you running Matrox PowerDesk as well? Disabling it might be worth a try.
If the problem is really caused by a hook compatibility issue, a workaround would be to run the messenger under a different user account. This way the UltraMon hook doesn't get loaded in the messenger, and the messenger hook doesn't get loaded in any of the other applications.

I seem to have a similar issue with JEdit.
Java version 1.4.3_06, currently as well. but it happened with previous versions as well.
Jedit version 4.2 final.
If I leave it open for a while it goes blank and becomes not-reactive. Diabling/re-enabling ultramon brings it back most of the time.
Jedit is avaiable form jedit.org

When this happens, can you still open other applications?
For example can you still open one or more new instances of Internet Explorer?

Yes,
The only app hung is JEdit when this occurs. Closing Ultramon frees the app.
I can then restart Ultramon and everything is OK for a while.

I haven't been able to reproduce this issue so far, I tested with UltraMon 2.5, jEdit 4.2, Sun Java 1.4.2.05 on Windows XP SP2.
This might also be a resource issue from what you described, closing UltraMon will free up some resources which would then enable jEdit to work again.
You could test if closing some other application has the same effect.
If it's a compatibility issue with UltraMon, try if disabling custom menu commands/window buttons for Java fixes the problem.
To do this, open UltraMon Options and add javaw.exe to the list of excluded applications on the Window Title Bar and Window Menu tabs.
javaw.exe is located in the bin folder of the Java installation folder.
