The situation I have is that unless the external display (in this case a projector) is actually attached when the laptop/tablet is booted, there's no dual monitor support. This is a problem as teaching staff move from room to room throughout the day and don't want to restart their machines every time.
Is there a way to force the external display support to always be present, even if it's not connected when the station starts?

I am having the same sort of issue. I have a projector that does not show up as a dual monitor on the systems we use, but a monitor does. It has to be on when the computer boots.
