Forums -> Multiple monitors -> Nvidia Quadro4 900XGL and Quadro FX600PCI
Mike   2004-09-04 23:32
I have the Quadro4 900XGL in the AGP and Two 20" LCDs hooked up to it and the FX600 in a PCI slot with two 20" LCDs hooked up.

When I run just the two on the 900XGL all is fine. When I go to run 3 or 4 monitors using the FX600 I get an error when trying to access a web page with java and IE closes.

I am running XP SP2. Tried just MSVM and then just Sun.

The error says:

An unexpected exception has been detected in native code outside the VM.
Unexpected Signal : EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) occurred at PC=0x73955230
Function=[Unknown.]
Library=C:\WINDOWS\system32\D3DIM700.DLL

Been battling this for a while now and connot solve it.

Any idea?

What version of Java? Are you running v1.4.2_05?

Mike   2004-09-05 04:17
yes. The latest. Uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times.

Called Sun tech support - of course they said it is not with their software, but with the video drivers.

got the latest Nvidia drivers. also tried about 5 versions back.

thanks

Also, do you have the same problem when you use the latest Firefox (or Mozilla) browser?

You can get it at www.Mozilla.org if you don't already have it.

Can I run IE and the mozilla a tht same time?

Also, would the NVIDIA NVS 400 that can handle 4 monitors be better that the two cards I am trying to use?
Mike   2004-09-05 05:20
Tried Mozilla. The one page that keeps crashing in IE has a java app that does not support mozilla.

Note, sometimes java apps on some pages and other times on the smae pages it crashes.

However, on this one particular page, IE always crashes if I have all 4 monitors enabled.

thanks
ECarlson   2004-09-05 08:23
Interesting that there is a Java app that doesn't support Mozilla, since Java is independent of the browser.

I would guess that you are experiencing a video driver bug, and the driver writers never tested in your particular configuration.

You might try to find a different version of the DLL mentioned in the error message, and see if it makes a difference.

ECarlson   2004-09-05 08:27
Oh, and yes: You can run Mozilla/Firefox and IE at the same time. You can even go to the same web page at the same time in both browsers.

I have a customer that was having this exact problem. The dump refers to an unknown function as well as the same .dll as above. He is running Win XP SP2, IE 6 SP2, JRE 1.4.2_03 (also tried 05), NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 driver version 6.14.10.5216, and dual monitors.

I believe the issue is related to an incompatibility between a video driver with multiple screens enabled and the Sun JVM. I've seen this a couple of times, now. Upgrading drivers doesn't seem to remedy the problem, at least in my case, making it difficult to pinpoint whether this is a driver issue or a JVM issue.

The only way to fix the problem is to disable the multi-screen setup. I found that going to a site that crashes in dual screen mode will work when accessed via single screen mode. Once the applet has loaded, you can turn on dual-screen (or quad) and have it perform as it should. Obviously this is not a true fix, but a viable work-around if you truly need it.

question:

with those quadros, is it possible to run horizontal span across all 3 or 4 of those monitors?
Chris   2004-10-25 05:28
You might try Java 5.
ECarlson   2004-10-25 13:17
Or see if it's fixed in Java JRE 1.4.2_06, and let us know.

I too have the same problem and I have Quad Monitors enabled via 2 Dual Monitor Graphics Cards. ATI and NVidia.
The problem does not occur all the time and I have not been able to narrow it down.

This is the only mention of this problem I have seen on the web and would like to find more info.
When it crashes, I get a *.log file on my desktop as follows:

An unexpected exception has been detected in native code outside the VM.
Unexpected Signal : EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION occurred at PC=0x73955230

I get the same error running on a single monitor setup. It happens when I start Borland JBuilder, just after the splash screen. I had just updated to IE 7, Media Play 11 beta. Loading the 2006 DirectX august version didnt fix the problem.

Hi there!
I have a GeForce 5700 VE and the same problem as you have R Prout. When i'm going to start jbuilder foundation 2005 there is the splash screen for a short time and then it's gone, leaving a text file with the same content. if anyone have an idea to fix the problem please tell me.
