Hi,
I have the following setup:
1 Laptop - ATI Radeon Mobility 9000 card.
1 Ilyama 19in monitor.
When I first plugged the monitor in I had a mirrored display of the laptops monitor.
Extending the display onto the second monitor also worked but the resolution and colour was very poor.
Any further attempt to change the display properties of the second monitor result in it either turning itself off OR displaying a Hendrix esque array of colours.
Any ideas on this? All help very much appreciated.

Make sure you have the output set to a resolution and refresh rate that the monitor can handle.

Thanks. Still no joy.
Any setting I try I still shows the same display. Loads of colours in small pixel format. It freezes the machine up too so that it takes a full re-boot. Very tedious. I've tried Ultra-Mon and still the same problem.
Weird though that the first time I plugged the monitor in it looked ok and looked as though it was mirroring the primary.
Any ideas?
