I know on my GFti4200 with extended desktop, I have to disable the second monitor when running Quake 3 Arena or there is a performance loss (even though nothing is going on in the second monitor but the windows desktop). Is this normal for all games, or just OpenGL, or just q3a?

I don't disable them at all for gaming. You could simple set up another profile in nView desktop tab...

Could you please further explain what you mean?

Do you play Q3A at all? I notice a non-trivial drop in FPS when I play with the secondary monitor enabled.

Right Click on desktop. nView Properties. Desktops. Add - set this up for a single monitor save with appropriate name. Switch to this profile when gaming...
