I've been using the atiixpab.inf driver in the 5772.zip package to get multimonitor & extended desktop with my ThinkPad X20. But this provides only one resolution (1024x768) and 16-bit color. The 5772 package contains 3 other .inf files and I'm wondering if any of them would permit higher quality color (1t priority), higher resolution, as well as the extended desktop. They are:

atintrav.inf, atintvmv.inf. atintwdm.inf.

I'm using the same driver (5772) on my Dell latitude with ATI Mobility on windows XP. I discovered the same as you that it would only do 1024x768. Problem was my second monitor was a 17" del 173fp. Then I came across Ultra Monitor and this program allows me to set the 17" monitor at 1280 x 1024 and it works perfect. I don't know why it works but it's perfect. 5772 gives the dual 'extended' capability and Ultra Monitor must interface the resolution portion of the driver to make it work. I tried everything this Ultra Monitor was the only thing that worked. You'll be happy. Try it. 30 day trail. Hope this helps.
