I downloaded Ultramon for evaluation. My Dell Latitude D600 has a Mobility Radeon 9000 display controller. I am running Windows XP. When docked, I want the laptop's display to be the secondary monitor, not the primary. But I don't seem to be able to do it. You have an option to "change the primary monitor" but when I try to use it, I find the option on the menu greyed out. Is there any way to do this?

Most laptop video chipsets don't allow changing the primary monitor, at least not via UltraMon or Windows Display Properties.
You'll still be able to change the primary monitor via the settings for the video chipset (usually a tab under advanced display properties).
Please note that changing the primary monitor via the video chipset settings can cause problems for UltraMon (due to the monitor numbers getting switched).

Thank you!!! Yes, that does switch the displays. What do you recommend as far as Ultramon, can I start it and stop it and have it work okay? So far, it actually seems to work after changing the displays, but I haven't tested much yet.

Some problems you might experience:
- UltraMon taskbar is on wrong monitor
- wallpaper image or screen saver displayed on wrong monitor
- application launched on wrong monitor
The problem is that UltraMon uses the monitor number to identify a monitor, and the monitor number then gets used to determine where taskbars are positioned or applications are launched.
For example, you have an application which should always be launched on the external monitor. By default this will be monitor #2.
After setting the external monitor as primary, the monitor will become #1, and the application will then get launched on the laptop screen because it is now monitor #2.

Most laptops have a special button to switch between the internal and external monitor, this should work even if you don't have a tab for the video chipset under advanced display properties.
For example on my Latitude X300, the button is labeled CRT/LCD.

You'll need to do this via the settings for the video chipset (under advanced display properties), usually it won't work via UltraMon or Windows display properties.
