I have a widescreen laptop (max res:1680x1050), and I got a second monitor (max res: 1600x1200). However, when I hook up my second monitor, the max resolution I can set it to is 1280x1024. I can only set the second monitor at a widescreen resolution, and I was wondering if there was any way to change the resolution to a normal size (1600x1200) and not widescreen. Thank you

1. Goto control panel > display > settings > advanced > monitor, uncheck "hide modes..." 2. How much video memory do you have?

unchecking "hide modes" only allows me to change refresh rates and not the resolution. i think my video card only has 32MB

Sounds like a video memory problem. Try reducing your colors to 16-bit (high color), that might do it. Also look in your adapter advanced settings, it may allow you to disable DDC reporting. You may also try going to CP > Display > Advanced > Adapter > List All Modes and see if the mode you want is in there.
