Right now I have an NVIDIA GeForceFX5600 256MB (AGP) running 2 monitors. Older MB, 2002 Dell 4400, P4 1.7GHz (It's AGP slot is only 4x).
Is it plausable that I can also install any NVIDIA PCI graphics card to run a third monitor?
Using both AGP and PCI slots?
Even if I do not have a 16x PCI-E slot?
I've read through the forums here a bit but am just a tad confused. Everyone talking about running 2 PCI-E cards. Just wanting to know if it's possible to run 1PCI -> 1 monitor and 1AGP -> 2 monitors.
If not I assume I MUST up the ante for a new MB with multiple 16x PCI slots, correct?

In theory, and most likely, that should work fine, but not everyone is so lucky. It also depends on what you want to do with the 3 monitors. If you're going to run regular business apps, then everything should be fine, but once you get into 3D games and sometimes video, things aren't always so simple.

Also, switching to the latest hardware isn't necessarilly going to increase the chances of success. In fact, the chances might decrease, since the latest hardware might not have mature drivers, while slightly older hardware might.

Thank you for the reply. I've researched a little bit today and I should be able to make somthing work. One display running a "Game/Simulation" using Open Scene Graph and the other two monitors each running another Open Scene Graph each or maybe a simple OpenGL window.

Worked great, not screwing around.
1 AGP GeForce FX 5600 256mb and 1 PCI GeForce 4 440mx, no problems. 3 montiors working fine. Used S-video out on the 5600 and connected my HiDef bigscreen, quite blurry, hard to read text. Going to try a DVI-HDMI cable out tomorrow. I should see if I can run 4 monitors off of these two video cards. SWEET.

The S-video cable makes the graphics somewhat blurry because I have to hack the resolution.
The HDMI/DVI cable works wonders. The Nvidia card automatically recognizes what it is and when I go to full screen view in MSFS2004 looks great.
