Forums -> Multiple monitors -> Laptop dual monitor config

I just got a shiney new laptop that supports dual monitor right out of the box and thought it was great as a graphic designer that extra space comes in incredibly useful. However the only way to make it work is at 1024x768 on both monitors, any other resolution makes the desktop larger than the monitor and you actually have to scroll to see the whole view. It does seem a shame to leave a 19" monitor at such a low resolution, but it's downright painful to look at the widescreen LCD(native 1280x800) at a lower 4:3 resolution setting. Is there any way to set different resolutions on each monitor and have them fit into the physical screen? To make life even more interesting, the laptop must remain portable and when it's on the road it will not have an external monitor.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
