I'm also mailing the complete log to support@realtimesoft.com...
I would really like to know what this is. It won't install no matter what I do.

The problem is that customizing the start menu shortcut, D:\Profiles\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\UltraMon.lnk, fails.
Unfortunately I don't know why this would happen. If you have anti-virus or anti-spyware software running, please try if disabling it before installing UltraMon fixes the problem.
Here's the complete error message from the log: PostInstallConfig: CoGetInstanceFromFile for 'D:\Profiles\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\UltraMon.lnk' failed with 0x80012, pLink err = 0x80004002 pLinkFile err = 0x0

I just got an error while installing Ultramon 2.6 and tracked it to this same line in my MSI installation log.
I don't have any anti-spyware or anti-virus software running.
I even tried to manually create a dummy UltraMon.lnk file in the all users/start menu/programs folder but I still got the same error.
Any new information on why this could occur?

It's probably a permissions issue, please try the following:
right-click the shortcut you created, select Properties from the menu, then select the Security tab and make sure that the SYSTEM account has full control over the shortcut.
UltraMon setup runs under the SYSTEM account.

I also have a similar problem. It tells me: "Module C:\Program Files\UltraMonShortcuts.dll failed to register. HRESULT -2147024891. Contact.....
and
"Module C:\WINDOWS\system32\UltraMon.dll failed to register. ...Same as other..
I tried going to these locations and deleting any UltraMon files and also doing a search for UltraMon and deleting anything related to it but it still gave me these errors nearly at the end of the installation.

Make sure you are running setup as an administrator, the error you got means that setup was denied access to the registry when trying to register those components.

Thanks for your suggestion Chris (about verifying the Security settings of the .lnk file), but I'm sad to report it didn't work.
I'm not running XP as part of a business network, I'm running Home edition, and there's no such thing as the "Security" tab for files.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

To access the security tab under XP Home, reboot the system in safe mode by pressing F8 just before Windows starts booting.
You will then have the security tab when opening properties for a file.
