my three monitors are arranged from left to right, lcd, lcd, projector, respectively
in ultramon they are identified as follows:
1. lcd on 6800
2. projector on 5200
3. lcd on 6800
so when i arrange them in ultramon it is:
1.lcd-3.lcd-2.projector
is there anyway for me to change this designation?

Plug in your videocards in a different order, or attach your monitors / projectors to different cards.

yeah i realize i could do those things, but one of my cards is a dual DVI PCIe and the other is a PCI that has 1xVGA and 1xDVI.
the cards are both nvidia:
GeForce fx5200 256mb PCI
Geforce 6800gto 256mb PCIe 16x
right now i run two lcd monitors off of the 6800gto and when ever i want to watch a movie i use the VGA out of the fx5200 to run a projector.
should i split the two LCDs to run one on each card? will ther be changes in the performance?

Why do you want to change the display numbers? Isn't it sufficient to go into Display Properties and to arrange the monitors into the order you want. Why are the numbers so important?

you are right it is purely preference.
every time i click to switch to another monitor the dialog box shows 1-3-2.
it sets pattern recognition alarms of in my brain that make my sub conscious want to click the wrong monitor even though my rational mind known what is right...also i hate having to hear my girlfriend say "why don't you make these numbers say 1-2-3? wouldn't that be better?"

What do you mean by switching monitors? Aren't all 3 on and available at the same time?
