On laptops the external monitor usually can't be set as primary. Is there a work around for this? I want my Toshiba Satelitte display to be my secondary monitor. and my external monitor to be my primary. What I really want to do is when i have IE open and click on a link, it opens on the primary monitor, i want it to open on my secondary or I want to make my external display my Primary monitor.

damn, I have the same problem. I was using a borrowed Dell laptop for a while and it let me set my external LCD as the primary, but that option is disabled on my Toshiba. I assume it is a limitation of the video driver.

Usually you can still change the primary monitor via the video card software, usually a tab under advanced display properties.
