Hi all,
first of all UltraMon is a really great tool! But I would appreciate if there would be a start button on the UltraMon Taskbar on the second monitor.
So you dont need to go back to the primary display, to open up the start menu.
Is this possible?
Thanks in advance

Thanks for your suggestion, will be considered for UltraMon 3.

I'd really like to see this too - it's important if you have a setup with multiple monitors where you can't see all of them at once.
One thing to think about when/if you implement this multiple-start-menu feature:
Make sure that applications start on the monitor whose start menu you used to start the app!

I want this feature too !
ps: if this is done. please open the new application in the screen from which the start button were pressed.

I'd like to see it so you can add the clock on the second monitor as well.

Trey 2006-01-31 10:07
definitely, i just downloaded ultramon and was hoping this was in it...

I'm absolutely looking for this feature as well.
If I could completely clone my primary task bar, that would be great. I don't know how easy it would be to include the system tray, but the start menu and clock are definitely much-needed elements.

I haven't downloaded the trial yet, but this is exactly what I would like, including the suggestion that the app open on the monitor whose start menu you used to start the app.

Thank youuu best regards.

I would like to see a Quick Launch and Show Desktop available for the UltraMon taskbar. The clock would also be a nice feature to have.
Thanks!

Why aren't the the desk top icons duplicated on the secondary monitor when mirroring? l
|
Christian Studer 2008-06-05 08:47
Zenas, in general this should work fine, but there are occasional drawing problems where an icon only becomes visible when you move the mouse over it.
Currently there's no fix for this, but this should no longer be a problem with the new version of mirroring which will be released with 3.0 Beta 3.

First I have to say that I really like the UltraMon software.
I'm also looking forward to the new Beta release, and hope that it will be here soon.
To connect to this thread, is it possible to be able to resize (height) the UltraMon taskbar.
I always uses two or three line in the Vista taskbar, so only having one line on the UltraMon taskbar makes it a little bit harder to work on that screen.
In other words, make the UltraMon taskbar as much alike the Vista taskbar as you can (Startbutton, Quick Launch, System Tray and so on)

You'll need to unlock the main taskbar in order to be able to resize the UltraMon taskbars.

hi all,
currently i use a freeware-alternative for creating a second start-bar.
but what i would really love - and i actually would bue the sw then - would be to enable multiple start bar on all monitors.
that is: - start button on all bars - applications only from that monitor - specify tray icons on specific monitor start bar - Maybe even a customizeable different Start Menu on each monitor?
well, the last 2 would be high-end but i'm just asking... ;)

I would like the option to select which monitors get start buttons (all or nothing sucks.)

Christopher 2008-09-19 11:21
Just got Ultramon and I like it, but I too would really like (and expected) a Start button on the 2nd monitor's taskbar (duplicating the traybar would be nice too but not as critical for me).
I'm running Beta 2 and this option does not appear to be in it?

I have a workaround to have a start menu on the second screen.
I assign a shortcut to move the active window to the next monitor. Then I press the windows key on the keyboard, and use the shortcut.
When I do this, the start menu appears on the second screen. This also works with Vista Aero ;)

John 2008-09-29 01:47
Christian, if you do implement this please make sure there is an option to turn off a second start menu.
The reason I ask is that I often have 20-30 programmes open, and every millimetre on my task bar is valuable to me, and is one of the main reasons I use Ultramon, so that I spread them across both monitors.

@joaormf: Great workaround until this feature gets implemented. Thanks a lot!!
This is my signature.

I use Stardock's ObjectDock along with ultramon to accomplish this. Object dock allows you to have a start button on multiple extended monitors. It works great!

Greg K 2009-08-11 05:40
Even if you don't go for the second Start button, allowing of docking a Toolbar in the secondary window would be nice. I keep one on my taskbar called "MAIN" that contains shortcuts to things I always use. I hardly ever use START, I use the main toolbar instead. (Note, I have the settings set just right so on the task bar you only see the Title MAIN with >> beside it, no icons, so it pops up like the start menu. Being able to add one of these would be a great alternative to START.
Also, and while I mainly came here: Can you PLEASE add a confirmation to the close command??? So many times I get in a hurry, and right click on the task bar and click CLOSE for the taskbar, and not the program. Would be nice if it made me confirm to actually close it ;-)
Thanks for the great software! Well worth the money spent!

Greg K, support for toolbars is in the 3.0 beta, you can download it here. Currently UltraMon has no built-in toolbars, you would need to install something like True Launch Bar and add it to the UltraMon taskbar.
Closing the taskbar by mistake is no longer an issue with the 3.0 beta, there you can only disable the taskbar for a monitor via UltraMon Options > Smart Taskbar.

I am using 2.7.1.0 and windows XP pro with 2 1920 x 1200 monitors. A while back I lost the taskbar on my secondary monitor. Can you tell me how I can get it back? Thanks a lot and apologies if I am posting this request in the wrong place. Otherwise, very happy UltraMon user ;-) Cheers, Tom
Here is the system info:

Tom, make sure the Smart Taskbar is enabled under UltraMon Options > Smart Taskbar. If it is enabled, resetting the Smart Taskbar configuration should fix the problem, see Smart Taskbar: missing taskbar or taskbar shows tasks from wrong monitor for details.

Hey guys, strange thing, I have 2.7.1
2 monitors Current desktop: 2080x1024 (-800,0 - 1280,1024)
Monitor 1 - LG L1918S (primary): Settings: 1280x1024, 32-bit color, 75 Hz refresh rate Coordinates: 0,0 - 1280,1024. Workspace: 0,0 - 1280,990 Video card: Gigabyte RADEON X300 Device: \\.\DISPLAY1\Monitor0
Until yesterday I had the Start botton on the second monitor, It was very useful, (for example I could switch off my pc from my bed, search files etc.) than i pushed some option by mistake and the taskbar disappeared. Now the taskbar is again in the second mon. but without the Start botton!!! What's happened?
|
Christian Studer 2009-09-21 10:30
Sounds like the main taskbar was moved to the other monitor, just grab a free area on the taskbar with the mouse and drag it back to the other monitor. The taskbar needs to be unlocked, otherwise you can't move it.

Seeing as you can add toolbars such as the address bar and windows media player toolbar to the ultramon taskbar, there must be someone who knows how to knock up a quick "fake start button" as a toolbar and install that on the ultramon bar i noticed in vista if you hit the start menu and do the move window to next monitor command (this can be set in options, hotkeys) then the start menu moves to the next monitor, apart from the user account photo, bit of a random glitch but oh well so if your realy need the start menu for the time bing, just hit the windows key then the hotkeys to move it to the next monitor (ctrl right in my case)
